Deadline to Enter SeaTac Municipal Court’s Law Day Contests is March 29


To illustrate the National Law Day Theme “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All,” Judge Elizabeth Cordi-Bejarano invites students to portray their ideas concerning “Equality” by entering SeaTac Municipal Court’s Law Week Art and Essay Contests.   

The deadline to enter is March 29, 2013.

The contest is for students in Grade 6 within the Highline School District. The work of art must depict the concept of “Equality” and what it means to the student, their family, and/or their community. The winner will receive a $25 gift card.

The Law Week Essay Contest is for students in Grade 10 within the Highline School district.  The essay must discuss the constitutional guarantee of equality for all citizens and how it relates to current issues faced by the author or society at large. The winner will receive a $50 gift card.

Essay topics can include the following:

  1. Civil Rights: Discuss the history of civil rights in America and how our past struggles relate to the current struggles for citizens in America after September 11, 2001. You may discuss issues of fairness, perceptions, religious freedom, and/or the role of government.
  2. Gender Equity: Discuss the history of gender equality in America, the effect on women in today’s world, and what, if anything, still needs to be done to achieve gender equity.
  3. Protecting and Encouraging Diversity: Discuss how a community and its government can guarantee equal protection for all regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, disability or sexual orientation.

Each winning entry will be displayed on the Court’s webpage, and each winner will be recognized at the City of SeaTac Regular Council meeting on April 23, 2013 at 6:00 pm. Submissions must be received by SeaTac Municipal Court no later than noon on March 29, 2013.
