Eugene Reites, 60, and Remedios Reites, 58, were identified as the victims whose bodies were found in the burned remains of the Emerald Place Apartments, which caught fire Jan. 17th.
The fire was so dramatic that three children survived being dropped from a second-floor balcony to a waiting relative and others below. Two women were critically injured after jumping off a third floor balcony to escape the flames.
The complex caught fire just before 7 pm that night, and when firefighters reached the 48-unit apartments in the 3100 block of South 192nd two minutes later, flames had already engulfed several units.
More than 100 residents were forced to evacuate.
